Man found guilty of animal cruelty | News

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A Yazoo County Justice Court judge granted an animal protection organization permanent custody of 15 starving horses and a mule.

The animals were seized from Alvin Ross, who was found guilty Thursday in Justice Court of nine counts of cruelty to animals, according to a news release from In Defense of Animals.

Justice Court Judge Pam May offered to suspend Ross’ fines if he would surrender all rights to the seized horses, according to In Defense of Animals.

The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department filed the charges in mid December after nine horses were found dead on a property off Highway 49 between Bentonia and Yazoo City.

The other horses were seized Dec. 21 after a judge issued a court order. The horses are now in various places being treated and rehabilitated.

Fifteen of the horses are in the care of In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary in Grenada. Seven others are being cared for by Mississippi animal welfare organization Have a Heart Horse Rescue (HAHHR).

All the horses will be available for adoption when they are rehabilitated, according to In Defense of Animals.
